Cranbury is a township located in Middlesex County, New Jersey. Located in the central part of the state, Cranbury is part of the New York Metropolitan Area. The township is less than an hour's drive from Midtown Manhattan and other major landmarks in New York City. Cranbury township was founded in 1697 and incorporated in 1872. The township's rich history includes serving as a headquarters for George Washington during the American Revolutionary War. The central part of Cranbury is unique, having numerous historic buildings from 18th and 19th centuries alongside the main street and downtown area.
According to the 2007 census, Cranbury has a population of 3,944 people living in 13.5 square miles of land. Unlike other parts of suburban Middlesex County, Cranbury has a lower population density of only 240 per square mile.
